Current Officers
There is flexibility in the duties of the club officers, depending on the
strengths and willingness of the person in the office. So, one year the
job of getting rides permitted might be allocated to the Prez, and the
next year the Veep might do it. Such is the nature of our club.

Historian: Office No Longer Held -
Historically, the historian was the keeper of newspaper clippings,
race results, photos, articles, etc; all things pertinent to the club.
With the advent of the Internet, and the building of the club website,
the historian doesn't have anything to do now. Perhaps this office
should be turned into "Webmaster".

Douglas Yates is FCC's public advocate. He is a press contact and
updates club officers about transportation issues that affect cycling
in and around Fairbanks. If you have safety concerns or questions about
transportation planning, or want to alert us to funding opportunities,
he wants to hear from you.

The site is intended to be efficient, in terms of bandwidth. Not
everybody has broadband to their computer, so multi-media content and
graphics are minimal. Even the photo archive is built for speed. Each
thumbnail image is 100 pixels wide, and is a link to the fullsize image.
The images were gleaned from all over, and shaped using
Paint Shop Pro v6, a powerful yet
inexpensive graphics program. There are more expensive packages out there,
but this one does more than most people would ever need.
The entire site was coded using Pico (an ASCII text editor that runs under
many 'Unix' variants) and to a lesser extent, Windows Notepad, another
rudimentary text editor. There are HTML editing tools out there, but this
way, only the HTML tags needed are used, further reducing bloat.
Liam Wescott has helped with the maps section of the website, adding new
rides, and updating old ones. It's the part of the website that we get
the most positive feedback about, too.
The site is hosted on a way cool Linux server at www.1and1.com. Linux is the BOMB.
