Visitor hopes to ride Parks highway-advice?

I need some advice on road riding in your area. I'm coming to Fairbanks to ride the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure, June 16th, 2012. I'd really like to ride from Anchorage to Fairbanks prior to the event. I would be supported by my wife in a vehicle - so kinda' credit card touring.

Can anyone offer advice on road conditions, weather, lodging, cycling laws, etc. on biking this route? I'm a reasonably fit Colorado roadie, so I don't think the actual cycling part is an issue. But are conditions acceptable?
