APRIL TIME TRIAL Murphy Dome Time Trial -- April 26th, 2001 -- 12 Miles The Fairbanks Cycle Club ushered in the start of the summer bicycle racing season Thursday evening, with the April Murphy Dome Time Trial. The event was a success, thanks in a large part to the thoughtful volunteers who showed up to help stage the event. The course is relatively short and flat -- a 12 mile out and back sprint, from the gravel pit on Murphy Dome Road to the end of the pavement and back. There are a few rolling hills, but the overall elevation gain is only a few hundered feet. Conditions were very agreeable, with light variable winds and clear skies. Racers started at 30 second intervals, and pace lines or drafting was not permitted. Time Trial races are simple races against the clock, and techniques such as drafting (riding directly behind a competitor to reduce air drag) are not permitted. This marks the first in a series of races scheduled for this summer. A complete listing of events and membership information can be found at the club website at www.fairbankscycleclub.org.
