JUNE MURPHY DOME TIME TRIAL June Murphy Dome Time Trial -- June 28th, 2001 -- about 12 miles The race started at 2 mile Murphy Dome Road, with racers streaking along the right-hand side of the road. Then, shortly before the pavement break at 9 mile, racers turn around at a cone, and crank back to the finish. Even though the course is relatively flat, many racers feel as though things have somehow gotten steeper, and leg muscles and lungs are on fire, making it hard to keep the pace. Nevertheless, conditions were excellent, and it was the perfect evening for the race. The surprise of the evening was that Shawn Harper narrowly beat out Doug Stewart, by a two second margin, finishing in 30:23. Sue Stewart showed her stuff, finishing first in the womens division, and placing third overall with a time of 33:17. Junior racer Steven Norris posted an excellent time and a personal best, completing the course in 39:07.
