MAY TEAM TIME TRIAL Nordale Road Team Time Trial -- May 30th, 2002 -- 10.8 Miles The Fairbanks Cycle Club's Nordale Team Time Trial had a fine turnout this year, much better than last years. Kudos to organizer Kay Kindt for getting the word out about the event. This year there were 15 riders, for a total of 8 teams. One rider paired up with himself, and still made a strong showing. Thursdays race was a 10.8 mile out-and-back, starting at the Chena Hot Springs end of Nordale Road, riding all the way to Chena Slough near Badger Road and coming back to the start/finish. The road was in great shape, with one racer commenting that it was like glass, but only in comparison to Murphy Dome Road, the site of an earlier time trial this year. Teams faced a headwind on the way out, and finished with a mild wind at their tails. The fastest team was the always dangerous duo Doug and Sue Stewart, on their cheater-bike (their tandem bike), posting a time of 25:45. The second best overall time was also taken by a tandem bike with racers Rocky Reifenstuhl and Gail Koepf, with a time of 26:57. Fred Raymond and Royal Davis paired up to take third place with 27:04 and the amazing young man Josh Carlstrom (only 16 years old) took fourth with 28:53. Thanks to the four excellent volunteers and Kay Kindt for making the event a success.
