ROADIES VS MTB'S
  Thursday Evening Race - Roadies vs MTB's  -- June 16, 2005 -- distance varies

In the 2005 version of this race, the mountain bikers reclaimed victory from 
the hands of the roadies.  The field of roadies included the likes of Jim 
Lokken, Fred Harbison, and Eric Tallan.  Nevertheless, Rocky Reifenstuhl 
spanked the roadies by over nine minutes, riding his mountain bike without 
regard for personal safety, attention fixed solely on the race.

In this classic match, roadies and mountain bikers face off, using the same 
start and turnaround point.  Starting at Elliot and Old Murphy Dome, roadies 
zoom down the Elliot towards Fox, turning left onto the Steese and riding up 
to Cleary Summit and back.  Meanwhile, the mountain bikers go overland using 
what we call the Silver Fox trail around Pedro Dome, to the same turnaround at 
Cleary Summit and back.  

Race organizer Simon Rakower said that despite the pre-race trail and road 
descriptions and the relative ease of finding the right way, there were a 
few participants who made wrong turns.  So -- we hope that all racers will 
return next year for the big....REMATCH!!
