MARCIA BURNSIDE MEMORIAL TIME-TRIAL Marcia Burnside Memorial Time Trial -- May 10th -- 12 miles Tyson Flaharty, after a successful cross country skiing season, proved he's a speedy guy on a bicyle too. He won the Fairbanks Cycle Club's first race at more than 24 miles per hour on the very hilly course. He finished in 29 minutes, 25 seconds, despite having to stop and put a foot down at a midpoint stop sign, a new race rule this year. An individual time trial race requires that each racer be started sparately and racers can not draft another rider. This is called the "race of truth", requiring focus, discipline, and disregard for pain. Rounding out the top five were: Eric (The Bullet) Breitenburger, Fred (Hammerhead) Harbison, Reese Hanneman (FCC's strongest young rider), and Rocky (The Geezer) Reifenstuhl. Cathy Weeg was the first woman at 38:33. All the riders enjoyed the club's refreshments at the post ride festivites, during which most riders told lies about why they didn't go faster!
