This was the second attempt to hold the race, which was postponed from the previous weekend when heavy rains made the trails too soft. The Kindergarten-2nd-grade class raced 1 loop around the stadium during the only dry period in the race. The 3rd-grade and older classes raced a rolling 1.2-mile circuit in increasingly heavy rain. The race was shortened from 3 to 2 laps for the 5th grade and older classes as the conditions became too slick to climb the hills. The trails remained firm but were slippery on the surface making corners and hills challenging. The Kindergarten-2nd-grade class was led almost from the start by Ian Ludwig who was closely followed by Sam Button. The youngest kids in the group Lars Vinlove and Tarn Bross traded places with Lars pulling away for 3rd place. This was the first bike race for most of these youngsters. Starting all at the same time, the 3rd -4th-grade class raced one lap around the course whiles the 5th-grade and higher classes raced two laps. The course started up the West Ramp, down the stadium hill, up the East Ramp to the Roller Coaster, followed by a fast descent on the White Bear Access, and then took a cutoff to the Warm-up Loop, which returned to the stadium. Clayton Schrader finished first in the 3rd-4th-grade class, followed by Peter Button (second) and Quinn Vinlove (third). Brandon Schrader took first in the 5th-6th-grade class, trailed by Cory Johnson (seconde) and Luke Button (third). The 7th grade and higher class was the largest and tightest division of the day. Riley Troyer took first for the second time this year with a commanding lead. Kyle Hanson was second followed within a minute by Aven Bross (third), Quinn Evenson (fourth), and Madeline Button, the leader of the Button family team (fifth). Ryan Senkow finished sixth after crashing twice in the greasy conditions and gamely completed the course despite a swollen knee. All racers took home prizes thanks to the generous donations by Beaver Sports, Goldstream Sports, and Raven Cross Country. Thanks to Jason at the Parks and Recreation Department for supporting the event. The next and last race of the season is August 4th at 10 am at the West Ridge UAF ski trails.
