GOLDSTREAM SPORTS CIRCUIT RACE GOLDSTREAM SPORTS CIRCUIT RACE -- July 10, 2008 -- 13 and 26 miles It was a good night for Heather Best and Jeff Oatley, a Fairbanks couple. Each won their division in Thursdays evening's Goldstream Sports Circuit Race, with Oatley taking the overall win. Twenty-two cyclists turned out for the evening race. In the Open division, racers did two laps of the course, with Oatley besting Tyson Flaharty with a time of 1:11:53 to Flaharty's 1:11:54. Joel Buth, owner and proprietor of the race's namesake, Goldstream Sports, came in third with a time of 1:15:45. The Sport Men and Sport Women divisions did a single lap of the course, with Heather Best winning the Women's division in 0:39:32, followed by Laura LeBlanc with 0:40:31 and Laura Gutierrez with 0:44:39. In the Men's division, John Bennett posted 0:39:29, with Jim Herriges at 0:39:33 and Paul Gregory at 0:39:44. The course was a simple circuit race, starting at the pullout near Goldstream Sports on Sheep Creek, and riding out to Goldstream and then Ballaine Road. Racers then turned onto Yankovitch road and then down Miller Hill, where a race rule had all racers come to a stop and put a foot down at the stop sign at the bottom. From there, they rode Sheep Creek back to the start. All but one racer observed the race rule, who was assessed a 60 second penalty.
