EDWARD JONES POINTS SERIES -- UAF SPRINTS UAF Sprints -- June 4th, 2009 -- 100 meter sprints June 4, 2009 :: UAF Sprints :: Each rider did 7 100 meter sprints. The UAF Police Speed Cart was used to clock the riders fastest attained speed for the distance. The course was slightly uphill and there was a head wind. Any maximum speed ties resulted in a "sprint duel" which was how the winner of the expert class was determined. In the land of the midnight sun Logan Hanneman came to the race riding a gun. In the final race of the day Logan was able to keep a charging Tyson at bay. As Tyson's foot came out of the pedal Logan's foot went straight to the metal. Each dug hard and gave it their all but the final duel ended with Tyson's first fall. The fair damsels also had their day as Heather kept the challengers at bay. The sport men ended in much the same way as Rick Steel won going away. High speeds rose to 31 miles per hour as riders battled wind and a slight hill as they looked for all available power. As temperatures soard to 84 above by the end of the sprints riders felt nothing but love. But as the breeze blew the smiling riders back to the start you clearly understood what was in their hearts. Logan Hanneman you best take heed, for the next time, surely, they will have more speed.
