Hello and happy bike month!

My name is Julius Adolfsson and am the new Statewide Bike-Ped coordinator. I’m located in Juneau at the DOT headquarters and will be working 50% as a bike-ped coordinator and 50% as a Rural Transit Planner. Although I’m in the early stages of my employment, I want to reach out to and ask if there would be any interest in having regular bi-monthly or quarterly meetings with a focus on statewide bike-ped topics. The Alaska Statewide Active Transportation Plan mentions recommendations and priorities, which I see as a great start for discussion for this group. Please let me know if you would be interested in participating in such a group.

Below is a short bio of my background, educational, and professional experience as well as interests.

I was born and raised in Sweden and recently relocated to Alaska with my Alaskan wife. Having lived in Sweden and other European countries the past six years we decided we would move closer to our Alaskan family. During my academic and professional career, I have developed extensive knowledge in solving systemic, strategic, and analytical challenges relating to community development and sustainability. My previous work experience encompasses working in public administration as director and project manager with integration projects for unaccompanied refugee minors. I hold a bachelor’s degree in International Crisis and Conflict Management from Umeå University and a master’s in Leadership for Sustainability from Malmö University.
I enjoy being active in the outdoors and love seeing countries from the saddle of my touring bike. My travels and upbringing have exposed me to various bike-ped perspectives and experiences that I will draw on when working as a Statewide Bike-Ped Coordinator.
I’m excited to start this new opportunity at DOT & PF and am looking forward to getting to know all of you.

If you have any questions or ideas, feel free to send me an email to Julius.adolfsson@alaska.gov or call me at (907)465-6978. Let’s stay in touch!
Sincerely,
Julius Adolfsson
