*CYCLING ‘BAN’ IS ACTUALLY A MISTAKE*The recent call to action over a proposed Federal Highway Administration rule that would ban bicycling on many U.S. roadways has been updated. The FHWA has issued a statement saying this was an “inadvertent” mistake. See major update at end of this story. Not sure how the mistake was discovered and whether it was cycling advocates who first alerted officials, but it’s always good to remind authorities that cycling is essential.
*HUGE NEW BIKEPACKING ROUTE BEING FORMED*This sounds like a huge, interesting, and exciting project! Find out more about it here: www.bikepackingroots.org/orogenesis.html
Shared from Bikepacking Roots Dec 19 Mountain bike from Canada to Cabo? The Orogenesis (@orogenesiscollective) Route is grand in vision, but with dozens of folks pedaling, pushing, and bikeshwacking along its 5,000 miles over the past several years, we’ve developed an incredible backcountry singletrack-focused alignment that includes over 1,400 miles of trail.
Expectedly, there are some formidable obstacles. Over the next year Bikepacking Roots is working with regional partners to inventory the roughly 200 miles of new and historic trail connectors that need to be rebuilt. Shown in these photos @trail_whisperer and @chris__mcnamara explore some of these gaps in connectivity through the ancestral lands of the Washoe people (Lake Tahoe region) and envision some of the stunning trails to make this cross-continental journey possible. Your contribution goes directly towards making sure visions like Orogenesis become reality.
