*COMMENTS SOUGHT FOR BONANZA CREEK PROJECT*This project would extend mountain and gravel biking opportunities in the Tanana Valley State Forest just west of Fairbanks. If you support it, get comments in by May 31.
Shared from Charles Bingham May 21 FAIRBANKS – Comments are due May 31 on the proposed BONANZA CREEK TRAIL CONSTRUCTION & TRAIL PARKING – 25-YEAR SPECIAL LAND USE PERMIT located within the Tanana Valley State Forest and Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest, from the intersection of the Parks Highway and Old Nenana Highway, to approximately milepost 338 of the Parks Highway.
The Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry, Fairbanks/Delta Area (DOF), in coordination with the Interior Alaska Trails and Parks Foundation (IATPF), has applied to the Div. of Mining, Land, & Water (DMLW) for a Special Land Use Permit to build four miles of multi-use trail connections between existing inactive forestry roads in the Tanana Valley State Forest and the Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest, and to create a trail-use parking area in a closed material site on the south side of the Parks Highway at the intersection with the Old Nenana Highway.
While DoF is the applicant, the permit would authorize IATPF to construct and maintain two 10ft wide trails, brush and maintain approximately 5 miles of existing inactive forestry roads as part of the trail system, increase public outreach using interpretive signs regarding working forests and forest research, and construct and maintain a parking and access point in the closed material site.
