We had a great FCC Spring Member Meeting on May 7.

  • About a dozen people participated in the riding portion and about 20 people attended the picnic.
  • Evee Rynish, from the Fairbanks Borough, told people about events planned for Bike to Work Week, which include family-friendly and after-work rides and events in addition to bike-commuter focused events. (This is still happening. Read about events still to happen HERE.)
  • Olivia Lunsford, from FAST Planning, gave a presentation on the Bike/Ped Count coming up May 23-25, and she was able to sign up several volunteers. She also talked about projects FAST Planning was taking on to help make Fairbanks a more friendly bike city. (Learn more about the Bike/Ped Count and where to sign up HERE.)
  • Eric Troyer, FCC treasurer, gave a report on the financial state of the club. (It’s doing fine.)

We had 17 respond to the 2023 Spring Member Survey (10 online and 7 at the meeting). Results are below. We had several people indicate they are willing to help with some of these things. We also got several comments regarding a variety of subjects:

  • Coordinating a Ride of Silence. (It occurs internationally on the third Wednesday in May at 7pm. The ride honors and remembers those riders who have been injured or killed while riding on public roads & helps raise awareness about a cyclist’s right to the road.)
  • Family-friendly rides geared towards pulling little kids in a bike trailer.
  • Participating in or starting a group aimed at making Fairbanks more bike friendly.
  • Fatbike rides during the week.

The board will discuss the survey results at our next meeting and see what we can do. Eric will be contacting people individually to give them more information or to see how the club can help facilitate some volunteer-led efforts.
