It was a beautiful night for a ride. Sunny and around 60F at the start. Six WOW and 5 other riders showed up to ride. And two LOL riders did the ride earlier in the day for a total of 13 who took on this hilly course. We all started together but Patrik and Alisabeth took off and we never saw them again. Five of us WOW riders stuck together. Nikki rode with us for about half then did her own thing. The other 3 riders were a little behind us. Owen quit early after doing half of the ride.

Summit at the beginning is always hard. No warmup and it’s straight up, up, up for 2.5 miles. I was the slowest of our group of five but not by much and the others waited for me. I didn’t stop as I knew they would quickly catch up to me again and they did. Each hill seemed to get slightly easier but never easy. None of us had done much road biking this summer and we all felt like we would be slower this year. We were, but not by all that much and who cares, we had a hard work out and had a fun time. And we got to eat cookies at the end!

Kim told us that at the top of Skyridge she was in too high of a gear. She tried to gear down but accidently geared up and ended up falling over clipped in. As she was laying upside down on the pavement, Steve came up on her. Luckily she was not hurt but too bad that there wasn’t a photo to commemorate this! Steve said he would have fallen over if he had tried to get a photo.

It was so fun to see all my WOW friends, I’ve missed our weekly rides this summer. Hopefully we will be back at it next year.

Stats:

Total mileage: 25 miles

Elevation gain: 2850 feet

Avg Speed: 14.5 mph (normally we are about 14.9-15 mph)

Fastest speed: Patrik down Summit at 50.8 mph!!
