WOW Ride #16 - Waterford-OMDR-Eldorado
By Erica
It was a beautiful evening with sunny skies. Three showed up (Erica, Corrine, Nellie).
We rode up the Waterford Trail. Conditions are not quite good enough for a QOM on the Strava segment -- I know, I tried! -- but everyone rode up strong. The pipeline was nice, smooth gravel. Then we got to OMDR powerline trail. That was bushy, branchy, rooty, grassy and did I mention bushy? We decided to hop out onto the road for a little ways for easier riding, but hopped back on to access the ridge trail.
The descent to the El Dorado Creek Trail was fun, a bit bumpy but I got to practice hopping over fallen trees. We regrouped periodically to make sure we all made it down safely. Then it was up El Dorado Creek Trail, which had a few mud spots but was way less rooty than the previous trail we were on.
We got back to the pipeline, and then cruised down Waterford back to the cars. What a fun technical route! And a gorgeous August evening.
Fun was had by all, even if we did get bounced around by some roots. (I managed to snag a pricker bush in my derailleur hanger, likely from the powerline stretch).
Ride stats:
Distance: -14 miles
Elevation gain: -1600 feet
Tonight was my last WOW ride for the season, I will miss the last rides. Corrine should be around. Next week’s ride is a gravel ride, meeting at Birch Hill for a fun hill climbing route. Hope some can make it!
