CANCELED: Roads are nasty. Trails aren't good for biking right now, and more snow is coming. The FCC Fat Tired Tuesday Night ride for tonight is canceled. No foolin'! Go do something else for exercise. Strength training might be right. That's some heavy snow to move!

This ride will have two parts, offering opportunities for those who want a short ride with minimal climbing, and those who want a longer outing.

WHERE

Meet at Ann's Greenhouse pullout on Sheep Creek Road

DESCRIPTION

We’ll head up Ester Dome Road for half a mile, turning left onto the power line. From there we’ll ride up just past the top, then head down the Goldstream Sports ski trails. They’re in spectacular shape, and it’s a maze of double and single track routes weaving back and forth and intersecting each other. We can go as long as we want.

Eventually we will pop out on the Dredge Trail. Those who want a short ride will turn left and be at the Sheep Creek railroad crossing in about three minutes.

The rest of us will head out the Dredge Trail, continue on Cloudberry, then take the Gold Hill power line across Henderson and continue a ways up, then turn onto the trail leading to the mine. That’s where the climbing begins.

We’ll stop at the lookout for photos, then continue up and then back over to Henderson and be on the road the rest of the way up. The maintained part of Henderson is an ice rink right now and studs will be a plus. Beyond the maintained section it’s a well packed trail. We’ll continue to the Henderson drop in for the Single Track, and from there most people will know what to do. Downhill all the way.

Figure about five or six miles and an hour or so for the short part, fifteen to seventeen miles and two-and-a-half to three hours for the long ride. Depending on the group speed, headlights might be an asset.
