Moderate Mondays – Gravel-ish Rides

FCC 2026 Moderate Mondays Ride

To see the most recent ride report, see our News page.

WHAT:
An “all-surface” or “gravel-ish” no-drop GROUP ride between 2 to 3+ hrs (10-18 miles depending on route difficulty and speed of the group) at a medium difficulty and/or medium pace.

NOTE: If there is no ride leader scheduled (see below), the ride becomes an unofficial meetup ride. People can gather at 6pm at UAF Nenana Parking Lot (across the road from the UAF Patty Center/SRC) and decide what they want to ride. Unofficial rides are not FCC sponsored and do not require FCC membership.

WHERE:
Starting at the UAF Nenana Parking Lot unless indicated otherwise below. (Check out some of the rides we've done on Ride with GPS.)

WHEN:
Mondays @ 6pm. First ride in 2026: April 27

WHO:
This is a ride for people who want to be both social and get a workout. It will be a GROUP ride and will be NO-DROP. Snack sharing is encouraged. If you’re a medium-speed rider, you’ll fit right in. If you usually ride fast, please join us on your recovery day and bring lots of snacks to share while we regroup at intersections. If you think you can go the distance but you’re worried you might be too slow, try it out and push yourself. It’s no-drop!

Fairbanks Cycle Club membership is required. (Temporary memberships are available.)

ETHOS:
What does “moderate” mean? It means we will go as fast as the slowest person can go and still be social, but rides will not be “easy” or “beginner.” Some days will be faster than others, but that depends on who shows up. We will regroup often and the ride leader may remind you to “moderate yourself.”

EQUIPMENT:
These rides will be a mix of road, gravel, and mellow trails. We will likely ride more pavement in May and when it is muddy. The rides will be “moderate” pace, but we will not avoid hills. If you ride a skinny-tire bike be prepared for some finesse on the rougher stuff. If you ride your fatbike or mountain bike, be prepared to work harder on the pavement. Most of us will likely be on gravel bikes, but your bike choices are up to you. If you have an ebike…be prepared to share your snacks.

HELMETS are mandatory. WEAR bright or reflective clothing.

E-BIKES:
E-bikes are new to our rides. For now we are saying yes to Class 1 (pedal-assist only, max speed 20mph) and no to Class 2 (has a throttle, max speed 20mph). Class 3 e-bike (may or may not have a throttle, max speed 28mph) is probably no, but we can discuss it. Definitely no if it has a throttle. If you have a Class 3 and want to join in, send an inquiry to pres@fairbankscycleclub.org. (And if you come with an e-bike, make sure it’s fully charged!)

Sometimes our winters like to extend into spring. When that happens, the first ride or two may be canceled or modified. We'll try to let you know via the FCC Facebook page and club email, but you can also contact the ride leaders (above). To get club emails you need to be a member
