Want to lead the pack in the Midnight Sun Run? Be part of the Fairbanks Cycle Club team!
The FCC will again lead the runners for the Annual Midnight Sun Run on Saturday, June 20. We ride ahead of the lead runners, pacing them and clearing the course, from the start at the Patty Center to the end inside Pioneer Park. This is a fun and simple way to get our club in the public eye and to help with the run.
We will be riding in memory of Liam Wescott. See below.
WHO:
You must be an FCC member to participate. You must be able to keep pace ahead of the lead runners for 6.2 miles. This is not a super-leisurely ride. We need to ride at about 13mph, but it's a flat course and not super-intense. Still, you have to pay attention. Those lead runners go pretty darn fast! (You can always pull off if it's too fast for you.)
You can ride whatever bike you're comfortable riding, be it a fat bike, road bike, recumbent, whatever, just as long as you're fast enough to keep ahead of the lead runners. If you have the gear, please wear FCC jerseys, shorts, shirts, T-shirts or whatever.
WHEN AND WHERE
Race day is June 20. Meet ride leader Eric Troyer at the base of the stairs at the UAF Patty Center at around 9:30 pm. Once everyone is assembled and ready to go, the group will head to the start. The race starts at 10pm. The race usually takes about 30 minutes or so to complete. Once riders get the runners to the finish line, you are done. You can see the course here. WHY
We provide basic course security by keeping the course clear and letting people know the runners are coming. It's helpful to occasionally call out "Runners coming!" or something like that. Spectators are often partying in the streets and not paying attention. The runners really appreciate a clear course.

IN MEMORIUM
We will be riding in memory of Liam Wescott, who died earlier this year after a brief illness. Liam loved this ride and led it many times. We will miss his presence. For many years, Liam was a regular at the Tuesday Night Mountain Bike Rides. The group enjoyed his wry sense of humor.
