    [FCC] From FCC Facebook

Fairbanksan Tyson Flaharty is now in Nikolai resting with the two other Iditarod Trail Invitational leaders. Sounds like it’s been absolutely brutal! Nikolai is about 50 miles from the ITI 350 finish in McGrath. Usually that doesn’t take the bike leaders long to cover, but this year…

    [FCC] Fatbikes and MACS buses

More info on the fatbikes on MACS buses issue.

I talked to a rep at youth safety day when they had a bike rack equip bus on display. They have been looking but there are no commercially available solutions. They would have to be custom made. $$$$. Road and 26 Wheel bikes fit. Adult bikes are not made in 26 wheels any longer. It’s an issue for sure. For all you non-FBers. We had this on FB recently and got some more information from Heath Sandall.
Wanted to let everyone know that a Fairbanks cyclist recently discovered that the bike racks on the MACS buses won’t fit the really fat tires on fatbikes. (Well, she was told that a couple of them do, but the rest don’t.) That’s a bummer for winter cyclists with fatbikes. Keep that in mind if you’re planning to combine biking with busing in the winter.
Heath Sandall <www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1380217527&comment_id=Y29tbWVudDozMTAzMzA2MjUzMDQ3OTE4XzMxMDQwNzMxNDYzMDQ1NjI%3D> It’s even a very tight fit for 29ers. It takes a little effort. Plus bikes won’t fit.
To give appropriate recognition… the bus website does note that fatbikes won’t fit.

And, yes, the website does note that, though it’s hard to find.

[FCC] Support Bicycle Safety Standards for Rumble Strips

Had this petition on Facebook, but we realize not everyone is on FB.
    Friend,
I thought you’d be interested in signing this petition from Adventure Cycling Association asking state departments of transportation to follow bicycle safety standards for rumble strip installation.
State transportation agencies continue to install rumble strips on popular bicycle routes and roads with minimal or no shoulder. Federal guidance specifies that rumble strips are only safe for bicyclists when there is a minimum four-foot shoulder available to the right of the rumble strip. This is the standard that should be followed by every state.
Can you join me and take action? Signing this petition allows Adventure Cycling to show broader support from the cycling community in rumble strip advocacy efforts. Click here to sign: actionnetwork.org/petitions/follow-bicycle-safety-standards-for-rumble-strip-installation?source=email&&

[FCC] Call for FCC Fatty Tour leaders

    Hello all,
Is anyone interested in leading an FCC fatbike tour in the next month or so? These can be as long or short, difficult or easy, as you want. There are three basic requirements:
    – Everyone on the ride needs to be a member of the Fairbanks Cycle Club ( www.fairbankscycleclub.org/membership/) – Everyone needs to wear a helmet (insurance purposes) – You gotta obey the rules of the road (if your ride takes you on one)
If you are game, I can get the word out. I’ll need the following info (please give me at least two days lead time):
    Date:
    Start time and place:
    Estimated tour time:
    Short route description:
    Estimated skill/fitness level needed:
*Such as beginner, intermediate, advanced. Just take your best guess on this one. You can do separate levels for skill and fitness, if appropriate. *
A day-of-the-ride cancel temperature and temperature website:
    – *“Temperature website” is whatever you want to use for determining a cancel temperature. Also, it would be good to set a time. For example: The ride will be canceled if the temperature is 10F below or colder at 8am on the NOAA Fairbanks website: forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-147.761&lat=64.837#.W_GbVpNKgq8 <forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-147.761&lat=64.837#.W_GbVpNKgq8> * – *Or just say “No cancel temperature” if that’s the case. *
    Are dogs allowed?
