Fairbanks Cycle Club is all about riding, and, boy, do we have a lot of rides year 'round. This list shows the summer rides that we typically do every year; some years the creative leaders among us come up with new things to do, and sometimes we take a breather from a particular ride for a year or so. Be sure to check out the calendar to find what's scheduled and where to meet up with the group. Everyone is welcome to any of our rides, but keep in mind that some might not be good choices for novice riders, while others are targeted at them. Check with the ride leader to find out if a ride is right for you!

Ride Requirements: Anyone can join one FCC ride as a guest. After that you will need to be an FCC member. Temporary memberships are available. All riders must wear a helmet. All participants must also sign a liability waiver form. Download the form and find out more on our insurance page.

Summer FCC Rides

Moderate Mondays (weekly) -- An “all-surface” or “gravel-ish” no-drop group ride between 2 to 3 hrs.

Tuesday Night Mountain Bike Rides (weekly) -- Also known as "Doug Rides" after their namesake, Doug Burnside, the Tuesday Night Rides are attended by mostly men and not enough women. Check the ride descriptions for ride ability levels, length, projected durations, etc. Rides tend to be more difficult as the season wears on. Check out the schedule to see where to meet and where we'll be going.

Women on Wheels (aka WOW; weekly on Wednesday) -- A moderate to fast-paced series of rides for women who like to test themselves. The ride schedule gives a lot of details about rides, mileages and meeting places. Pacing is usually 16-19 mph (paved road speeds). (WOW are back for 2026! And they are mixing things up!)

Pedal Powered People (aka PPPs; weekly on Wednesday -- and Thursday for 2026!) -- A slow- to medium-paced social ride for all genders and ages (though riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). Most rides offer a mid-ride break of some sort. Note: This ride is a replacement for the Ladies of Leisure. Once one of our most popular rides, LOLs had declined greatly in the past couple years, so we decided to start a ride open to more people. (PPP are done for this 2026. See you next year!)

Sunday Brunch Rides -- Casual-to-moderate paced rides with an incorporated brunch stop. Scheduled for every first and third Sunday, though rides occasionally happen on Saturdays.

Lazy-ish Sunday Road Rides -- Medium-paced weekly road rides open to all. Meet on Sundays at 11 am.

Zwift Weekly Rides -- Hour-long rides indoor trainer rides. Find out more on the ride page. (2026 FCC Zwift Rides are on hiatus until September or October, depending on the weather.)

Equinox Marathon Clean Up Ride (once a year) -- Help clean up after a bunch of runners! Have fun, do good work!

Midnight Sun Run Course Clearing Ride (once a year) -- We ride ahead of the race leaders to let spectators know the runners are coming. The Midnight Sun Run is as much a spectator event as it is a run, and some spectators get so lost in the revelry they need to be reminded to keep the course clear for the runners. This ride is good fun and important. The course is flat and paved, so the riding is not difficult, but the runners are fast. If you slack off, they will catch up, so you need to pay attention! The race starts at 10 p.m. We meet a little before that.

Guidance for Cycling During Times of Wildfire Smoke: These guidelines are aimed at FCC ride leaders, but they are useful for anyone trying to decide when to cycle (or exercise at all) when we are getting smoke from wildfires. This was last updated August 2022.

Winter Rides: FCC holds a number of winter rides, too. For more information see our Winter Rides page.

Non-FCC Rides

In addition to our club rides, Fairbanks has some other rides that are free and open to the public. Some are offered year-round. Here are the ones we know about:

  • Goldstream Sports has rides three times a week. All start at the store and are open to the public. Tuesday and Saturday rides are year-round. These are road rides spring and summer, gravel or mountain bikes in the fall, and fatbike rides in winter. For more information call the store at 455-6520.
    • Tuesdays have two rides: (6-8:30pm) Moderate-paced rides (road pace average 16-18mph); (7-9pm) hardcore rides (road pace average 18-20mph).
    • Saturday (8-10am): Hardcore rides (road pace average 18-20mph).
    • Friday, June-Aug: (6pm start): Mountain bike rides on Ester Dome Singletrack Trails for all ages. Shuttles from the store are available. Grill will be going at the store. Bring food for the grill or other food and drinks to share. Donations will be taken for the upkeep of the Ester Dome Single Track.
  • Beaver Sports often offers weekly mountain bike rides, summer and winter, on Thursdays, usually starting at 5 or 5:30 p.m. (In spring during breakup, the rides are either suspended or take to roads and bike paths.) These are low-key, no-drop rides. The store also offers occasional group demo rides that are like tours.  They also offer free bike repair clinics in summer. The clinics offer guidance for people interested in learning how to repair their own bikes. Keep an eye on their Facebook Events page or give the store a call at 907-479-2494.
  • Bankstown Bike and Ski hosts Ride Fridays! starting about 6 p.m. These are low-key rides that usually end at HooDoo Brewery. Participants must be 21 or older.
  • Boomers on Bikes meets on Thursdays at 1:45 p.m. They generally ride at a slower pace and often break into smaller groups with each going a different pace/distance. Everyone is welcome to join. Where they meet varies. Ride leader Stephanie sends out a weekly email describing the ride and meet place. If people are interested in joining, send an email to smeath@alaska.net

COVID Suggestions for FCC Rides

While much less of a threat, COVID is still out there. Here are some guidelines for riders and ride leaders: (These apply to riders from different households. If a group is very small and everyone has been vaccinated, then the following suggestions can be relaxed. If you have not already done so, please do get vaccinated!)

  • If you are showing possible COVID symptoms or have recently been exposed to someone who has COVID, please stay home.
  • Distancing: Everyone has different levels of comfort on distancing. Please be mindful that some people prefer maintaining 6 feet of distance, especially when not moving on bikes. So, best to assume that unless you know otherwise.
  • Riders are allowed to ride in a pace line, but riders in front of others must not clear their noses or spit (see note below). Heck, that's good advice ALL the time.
  • Any group snacks should be individually wrapped.
  • Use your common sense when facing unusual situations.
