Basic map
Cripple Creek road has some of the smoothest pavement in Fairbanks. Smooth
pavement is rarer and rarer these days, due to the growing use of chip-seal
surfacing.
Park at the intersection of Cripple Creek and Parks Highway. Ride out Cripple
Creek, past Isberg, past other roads. Turn around at Potter (you can easily
see the end of the pavement from there) and return, turning right on Isberg.
Isberg will be a fairly steady climb (but not all that difficult) all the way
to Chena Ridge Road. Turn around at Chena Ridge Road, go back down Isberg,
turn right on Cripple Creek Road and return to the start.
Options:
- Change your start point (University? Ester Community Park?)
- Instead of turning back at Potter, go up Potter (a good quality dirt
road, adequate for road bikes). Turn right on Becker Ridge Road, and then
right away turn left onto Rosie Creek Road. Follow this all the way out to
Chena Pump Road, turn right and follow Chena Pump to the Parks Highway. Turn
left, follow the Parks all the way back to the start at Cripple Creek.
- Instead of turning back after your climb up Isberg, you can go right on
Chena Ridge Road (then see above directions) or go left (and, see above
directions).
You can really mix this ride up with other rides. Have fun.
