Come have fun and learn about mountain biking this fall! We’ll learn and improve basic skills on the bike, learn how to use gears, gain comfort riding on uneven surfaces and practice riding over and around small obstacles, all while exploring local grass and dirt trails in Fairbanks! Coach Hilary Saucy developed the 2020 Youth Mountain Bike Program this summer after seeing increased interest in biking skyrocket during the pandemic. The first summer class was loads of fun and we invite you to join us in our second program before the snow flies!
Dates & Times:
Sept 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 & Oct 1
Cost: $59 for all six sessions
Age: 9-16 years old
Location & Description: Practices will take place at at Birch Hill Rec Area and UAF trails. A schedule will be emailed to registered riders before the first class.
The following are participation requirements:
~FCC Membership is necessary to cover the insurance cost associated with this program. We have a number of individual and family options available.
~ Parents will be asked to volunteer as a helper for one session during the program (no experience necessary, just the ability to ride a bike on grass/dirt). ~ Safety is very important! Every participant will be REQUIRED to obtain a complementary bike and helmet safety check from a Beaver Sports or Goldstream Sports bike technician . The technician will give you a signed form which you will need to bring with you to the first practice. Any participant found with an unsafe bike at any point during the program will be asked to sit out the session and will not be allowed to return until the problem is fixed.
- A reliable bike with hand brakes and gears
- Safety check by Beaver Sports or Goldstream Sports bike shop (free!)
- Bike helmet
- Close-toed shoes with laces or velcro. No slip-ons or sandals!
- Water bottle or hydration pack.
- Extra inner tube
- Windbreaker or light jacket
- Bike gloves
- Protective eyewear
- Bug dope
- Padded bike shorts
