The WOW Annual Butterfly Ride has been rescheduled for this week!
The Butterfly Ride got canceled last week due to the presence of thunderstorms and the possibility of rain and nickel-sized hail. (Three riders showed up anyway. See note at end.) But the forecast for this week looks excellent!
WHAT: 10th ANNUAL WOW BUTTERFLY RIDE
WHO: WOW, SCOW (Scum on Wheels), COW (Children of WOW), LOL, and anybody else who is reasonably fit and wants to ride with others
WHAT: Annual Butterfly Ride. Ride up and down 4 hills of Farmer’s Loop. We will flutter up and down the hills just like a Butterfly. We ride up and down Summit, SkyRidge, Skyline and usually McGrath- this year we will go up and down Old Steese instead for extra bonus miles! About 30 miles with over 2000 feet elevation gain. You need to be a member of the Fairbanks Cycle Club and wear a helmet to ride. You can go online for a one day membership.
WHEN: Wednesday August 19, 2020 6 PM. WOW start on time so be on time!
WHERE: Musher’s Hall
WHY: Why not? Ride 1,2, 3 or all 4 hills. Ride at your own pace. You can race others or go leisurely. There may be individually wrapped cookies for those who show up. What’s not to like about that?

REPORT FROM LAST WEEK Three riders — Alisabeth Thurston-Hicks, and Ariane and Matt Glover — showed up to last week’s canceled Butterfly Ride and rode anyway!
Alisabeth’s report:
“It only sprinkled a little, then it cleared up and there was actual sunshine. I still took lots of caution on the damp downhills. Sadly I hadn’t secured my MuckyNutz butt protector well enough, and lost it somewhere along the way. Since we used Old Steese instead of McGrath, it was technically a new route.”
So, if you find a MuckyNutz butt protector out there (some of us hadn’t heard about that before, but it sounds cool! and maybe a little weird), it’s probably Alisabeth’s.
