This week’s Sundays on Snow ride will keep you riding high!
When: December 10, 2023, start at 11am
Where: Meet at 2051 Pine Cone
Eric and Corrine’s driveway has upper and lower areas for parking. Several cars can fit. If needed, we can also use a cul-de-sac at the end of Pine Cone. Eric will direct traffic.
Tour Description: We will ride from Eric and Corrine’s house up the road system about a mile to the start of the trail (technically the O’Connor Creek East Ridge Trail). The trail is hilly, winding, and narrow, but it is at least the width of a snowmachine. You should have good fitness and some skills on hills and winding trails, but the trail isn’t radically difficult. This will be an out-and-back ride, 8-10 miles, 2-3 hours.
If you’ve ever done this rooty, bumpy trail in the summer, it is vastly different in the winter when snow fills in the bumps.
Here’s a LINK to the Trail Forks page of the trail.
Eric and Corrine invite all participants in for some hot cocoa after the ride.
The ride is free, but you’ll need to be a member of the Fairbanks Cycle Club. One-day memberships are available.
Temperature cut-off: The ride will be canceled if it’s 25 below or colder at 8:30 a.m. according to the Skyflight Ave weather station found on this WEBSITE.
We will be higher than Skyflight the entire time. With the typical inversion, it will be at least 5 to 10 degrees warmer up on the ridge.
Dogs: No dogs please.
Leader: Eric Troyer (firstname.lastname@example.org)
If you don’t own your own fatbike, but want to try it out, there are a few places around town that rent fatbikes that we know about. (Not all are open on Sundays, so plan ahead.)
