Interested in winter bike camping but not sure where to start?
The Fairbanks Cycle Club will be offering an Introduction to Winter Cabin Trip in the Chena River State Recreation Area this April. The trip is geared toward fairly self-sufficient people who want to go winter bikepacking but have never ventured out on an overnight trip to one of our local cabins. Participants will bring all their own gear, including food, cook kits, and sleeping gear.
WHO
Open to all FCC members, but space is limited to seven participants. (Temporary FCC memberships not accepted for this trip.) If you are not a member, you can sign up HERE.
WHAT
Alyssa Enriquez, an experienced winter bikepacker, will lead the trip. This will be to the Lower Angel Creek Cabin in the Chena River State Recreation Area, which is just 3.1 miles on the Angel Creek Winter Trail.
Alyssa will supply participants with a packing list and a list of tips and tricks when they sign up for the trip. There will be an in-person session about a month before, so that Alyssa can check out everyone’s gear and go on a short ride with them on their loaded bikes. Place and date to be announced.
WHERE
The Lower Angel Creek Cabin in the Chena River State Recreation Area. The cabin is accessed by the Angel Creek Winter Trail.

WHEN
Saturday, April 4 (spending one night). A pre-trip meeting will be held at Goldstream Sports so that Alyssa can check everyone's gear setup. That meeting will include a 3-mile test ride. (Pre-trip meeting date TBD.)
HOW MUCH
Class fee is $15. Participants will also need to pay for a parking pass at the trailhead ($5 per day) if they don’t have an Alaska State Parks season pass. Season passes are good at state parks trailhead parking areas and can be purchased HERE.
