We recently found out that the rules for the Fairbanks Golf Course have changed. Fatbikes are no longer allowed on the groomed trails. This is a change from past policy.

Fairbanks Golf Course trails are on private property and are groomed by volunteers, mainly Stan Justice.
We recently had a group ride of the Ride or Glide course that started on the golf course groomed trails not realizing the rules had changed. We have apologized to Stan and assured him we will no longer lead any rides on the groomed trails. The Ride or Glide course can be accessed from Beaver Sports (ask at the store) and the Muskrat Trailhead.
We also recently read a post about bike tracks seen on the UAF groomed ski trails. Bikes are also not allowed on groomed ski trails at UAF or Birch Hill. They are allowed on UAF groomed and ungroomed walking trails. (See map HERE. An update that more clearly shows fatbikes are allowed on those trails is pending.)
We are incredibly lucky to have many, many groomed and ungroomed trails open to fatbiking. So, please don't bike on the few trails that are reserved for skiing.
Besides the UAF walking trails, fatbikes are also allowed on many other groomed trails including:
- Ester Dome Singletrack Trails (donate to grooming at Goldstream Sports)
- Tanana Lakes Recreation Area
- Chena Lake Recreation Area
- Moose Mountain connector trail to Old Murphy Dome Road
- Alaska Dog Mushers Association trails (please buy a trail pass)
- And several trails in the Goldstream Valley and hills to the north (groomed by mushers and others)
- And, of course, there are the hundreds of miles of trails packed by snowmachiners and mushers that we get to take advantage of. Again, we are incredibly luck to have so many trails available to us.
And if anyone knows of any other groomed trails open to fatbiking not listed above, please comment below.
