*COMMENTS SOUGHT FOR DENALI NATIONAL PARK TRAIL PROPOSAL*People have until March 30 to comment on a proposal to add about 17 miles of trails in Denali National Park in the area between the Nenana River and the Parks Highway.
One of the trails would be non-motorized multi-use, including bikes, while others would be for foot-traffic only. The proposal has a few alternatives.
Two informational meetings will be held during the public comment period with the same information presented at each meeting:
6 – 7:30pm Thursday, March 9 – In-person meeting at the Murie Science and Learning Center, Denali National Park
6 – 7:30pm Friday, March 10 – Virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams

*REPORT DISPUTES FORT KNOX CLAIM ABOUT PROCESSING FACILITY*If you are following the Fort Knox ore hauling proposal, this is a highly interesting post. Driving those huge trucks along the Richardson, through Fairbanks, and up the Steese would not be necessary if the mine built an ore processing facility at the mine site near Tetlin. Fort Knox has been claiming that would be uneconomical, but investigative blogger Dermot Cole has found evidence that might not be true.

Kinross is telling Alaskans that it is not economical to build an ore processing facility at the high-grade gold deposit near Tetlin, so the Canadian company has no choice but to use the highway system to truck ore to the Fort Knox mine for processing. Shared from Iditarod Trail Invitational March 1 Congratulations to the 2023 ITI 350 bike champion Tyson Flaharty from Fairbanks, Alaska! Tyson finished the race in 3 days, 1 hour and 30 minutes, and this is his third win.
(According to track leaders.com, as of Friday morning Fairbanksans Peter Delamere and Tom Moran have also finished, while Jay Cable and Jamie Hollingsworth are closing in on the finish)

*ESTER VALLEY TRAIL CASE CLOSED; TRAILS PLAN REFERRED TO BOARD*Two recent developments have a big impact on local Fairbanks-area trails.
